Roofing services for Detroit homes and commercial buildings

Ted Thompson has been on Detroit roofs for more than 20 years. Homes come first below, then flat and low-slope commercial work. Every job starts with a free inspection and a written estimate, and the roof you are most likely calling about is the first one on the page.

The free inspection, and what comes after it

Choosing between a repair and a replacement is the hard part, and it is the first thing the inspection settles. Ted writes down what he finds, so you can compare it with any other roofer’s paper, and if a licensed and insured roofer writes you a lower number, bring it to us.

On the roof, we look at

Surface
Lifted, cracked or missing shingles, bare granule patches, and where the membrane has pulled at a seam on a flat roof.
Decking
Soft or stained boards where we can see them from the attic or at the eave, because that decides repair or replacement.
Flashing
Chimneys, walls, vent boots and valleys, where most leaks start.
Ventilation
Ridge and soffit airflow, which matters for ice dams and for how long the next roof lasts.

A repair makes sense when the damage is in one area and the decking under it is sound. When the damage is widespread, the boards are soft, or repairs keep coming back, the paper says replacement and says why. Read more in the roofing questions homeowners ask us.
